16/07 Tangalooma

Image
Tangalooma Island Resort It was a great day of R&R at Tangalooma. Almost as good as the 6th Form Centre tables. Almost.  Edan K takes on Sachin G The Island is over 95% sand & the 3rd largest sand island in the world.   A great example of longshore drift and wind based dune accumulation for all you Geography fans back home.  A tropical paradise for those of you with a life! Mr Lines Running Man  While the boys were still in bed Mr Lines was competing in the 5k morning race! Mr Lines came 2nd in the 5k race, despite the sand dunes and Aussie competition! Wreck Snorkelling After a morning risk assessment from the staff the boys were able to go snorkelling the wrecks off Tanagalooma Bay with some instructors .  As well as sunken ships the main highlights included Blowfish, Lion Fish and two sharks mating! For some reason the boys hung off this instructors every word... Bog Snorkelling Anyone? The Yorkshire Bog Snorkelling

15/07 Gold Coast to Tangalooma

Mr Barker arrives home safe and sound We are pleased to say despite a 3 hour delay Mr Barker managed to arrive home safe and sound from the long flight home. And in classic Mr Barker fashion he made sure he spent the first few hour back at home writing emails to keep the PE staff on their toes, while no doubt eating more than his share of custard cream biscuits. Tinks arrives The boys and staff were delighted to welcome ex-QEGS rugby playing powerhouse, physio and chocolate connoisseur Alec Tinker to the tour. While Mr Barker's shoes may be impossible to fill there can be no doubt the boys will benefit from Tink's expert physio/ osteopath support while discussing the merits of a freshly baked chocolate souffle. Here Tinks can be seen eating two deserts. The chocolate fudge cake was only so so in his expert opinion. Donkey's of the Day Dan P and James C earn this for sneaking out after curfew. Dan looked far to comfortable in his dress and bright orange

Morning Surfing at Surfer's Paradise  The lads got to enjoy the sand, sunshine and surf at the iconic Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast. It was genuine Aussie experience and a top warm up before the rugby. While all enjoyed it, it is fair to say we should stick to rugby!

13/07/17 Mr Barker's Last tour training

Image
Mr Barker's last tour training session. It was an emotional morning for Mr Barker as he lead his last tour training session before he heads back to the UK. Mr Barker, who has been the heart of QEGS rugby since 1981 and made his overseas tour debut in 1988 to Canada. Since then he has been on and lead countless overseas trips which have given generations of QEGS boys the chance to build friendships and memories which will last a lifetime. He has been an utter inspiration to staff and boys alike. Stunning location for training With the Remarkable Mountains in the background (2500m+) Presentation in honour of Mr Barker Tunnel for Mr Barker Fergburger The QEGS players and coaches took on some extra protein and then some at the world famous Fergburgers. About a million times better than a well know burger chain with golden arches, this was just one of many memorable experiences here in Queenstown. Lady killers/ burger killers From left t

Ice Road Truckers A fresh blast from Antarctica!  Donkey's of the Day. L.Smith and the well named P.Snowball. For severe lateness in Queenstown!  Sap of the Day Seb B For general softness!  Shotover Jet With speed of over 85kph down a narrow river Canyon this was a thrilling experience for the boys.  Zip Wires Overlooking Queenstown, the boys enjoyed zipping through the steep pine forests. It was very cold though!  Theo J and Dan P harness up G Man braces himself for the drop. Harry K looks confident.  Mr Head ( who is scared of heights, very large and very hairy) kept guard on the ground while the lads worked their way through their tree houses and zip wires.
